\"nylww.jpg\"In het nummer Shock and Awe van de nieuwste cd van Neil Young zit een trompet die een krachtig deuntje blaast dat ik weliswaar herken maar niet thuis kan brengen. Ik draai het keer op keer en steeds passeren dan ook de woorden:
\nWe had a chance to change our mind
\nBut somehow wisdom was hard to find
\nWe went with what we knew and now we can’t go back
\nBut we had a chance to change our mind.<\/i>
\nAls ik het hoor komen onwillekeurig de beelden van discussies een paar jaar geleden weer terug. Met vrienden op een terras, aan de telefoon, met collega’s op de bureaus. Heftige discussies. Zij waren meestal tegen. Ik niet.
\nIk was ook niet voor.
\nMaar ik peinsde er niet over om te protesteren tegen het afzetten van een dictator.
\nEn zo kom ik al neuriënd de hele ochtend terug op mijn oordeel van destijds.
\nWe had a chance to change our mind<\/i>
\nDe cd Living With War<\/a> is helemaal gevuld met protest tegen de oorlog in Irak.
